Abstract

While higher education institutions increasingly face disruptive challenges, the specific contribution of community extension programs to institutional resilience and sustainability often remains underexplored. Addressing this gap is necessary to understand how outward-facing initiatives strengthen the internal organizational capacity. Consequently, this research explored the "IGCFI Experience," examining how community extension programs serve as drivers of institutional resilience and sustainability at Inter-Global College Foundation, Inc. A mixed-methods research design was utilized to analyze the extent to which these initiatives contributed to adaptive capacity, stakeholder engagement, and long-term viability. Quantitative data were gathered from faculty, students, and community beneficiaries through structured surveys. Simultaneously, qualitative insights were obtained via key informant interviews and document analysis of institutional reports. It was revealed that IGCFI’s community extension programs significantly enhanced institutional resilience by strengthening partnerships, promoting resource-sharing mechanisms, and enabling responsive program delivery during disruptions. Furthermore, these initiatives were found to foster sustainability through continuous community engagement, alignment with local development needs, and the integration of service-learning into academic curricula. Active stakeholder participation and strategic leadership were identified as critical factors in sustaining these efforts. Despite these positive outcomes, challenges such as limited funding, inconsistent monitoring systems, and varying levels of stakeholder commitment were noted, suggesting critical areas for future research and continuous improvement. Ultimately, these findings highlight that community extension programs are vital strategic mechanisms. This study provides a basis for higher education policy formulation, recommending the development of structured evaluation frameworks and increased institutional investment to fully integrate community engagement into broader resilience agendas.
