Abstract

This study develops a smart building system designed for commercialize condominium building environments using a Raspberry Pi as the central controller and ESP32 modules for distributed control. The system integrates multiple access methods such as RFID, fingerprint scanning, and facial recognition, combined with automated sliding doors and a smart parking system to improve both security and convenience. It also includes an emergency evacuation mechanism, voice control, and interactive voice response for hands-free operation. To enhance sustainability, the system incorporates solar energy with automatic power switching during outages. Overall, the study aims to provide a low-cost, scalable, and unified solution for modern smart buildings. An Experimental Prototyping and deductive research methods was used , focusing on improving existing smart building technologies through system design and prototyping. The Raspberry Pi served as the main controller, while ESP32 modules handled specific subsystems. The system underwent alpha and beta testing to evaluate performance, reliability, and functionality. Alpha and beta testing were conducted to check its performance, reliability, and overall functionality. In addition, a Likert-scale questionnaire was used to gather feedback from users, allowing the researchers to evaluate how effective and user-friendly the system is in real-world use. The system met all design requirements and performed reliably during repeated testing. It showed fast and consistent authentication across all access methods. User feedback indicated high satisfaction, confirming that the system is effective, user-friendly, and suitable for real-world implementation. The results demonstrate that the Raspberry Pi is an effective central controller for a smart building system. By integrating multiple technologies, the system reduces manual supervision, improves traffic flow, and enhances security. Its scalable design allows future integration of advanced features such as AI-based threat detection and cloud analytics, making it a practical solution for modern, secure, and energy-efficient buildings.
